The world has never been closer to universal access to healthcare for all. This time last year, The Economist ran a feature about how close the planet has come to achieving the benchmark. This truly is feasible, and the major barriers are the intransigence to change, mostly by the financially vested incumbents.
The shocking or disturbing feature of this resistance is that it’s self-defeating. By extending healthcare to the groups who are currently unable to access it, the global economy would realize a significant boost in productivity and efficiency, which would more than offset the direct and indirect costs.
So what are we waiting for? #healthforall
