Looking further around the corner, at the future of US hospital exports, or the treatment of foreign patients in American hospitals, what do we see?

International Patient Services departments need to focus on three things, and three things only – mission, brand and recruitment. The purpose of the IPS is not to put “heads in beds” (foreign patient occupancy is a rounding error in every hospital that serves them), or to add to the bottom line (revenue from foreign consumers never exceeds 2% of total hospital revenues). Sure, IPS’s do these, however, the IPS must be measured by how well it serves mission, brand and recruitment. These strategic goals should be part of every IPS’s KPIs. And if you need help figuring that out, give us a call!
