Leadership and Trust February 10, 2015Leave a comment

Marketing, research and business development consultant in healthcare, human services and senior living.

In modern culture, the nightly news anchor stands as a source of information, and a connection to the world beyond. We invite the anchor into our homes and we listen because we trust him or her. The gaffe, embellishment of outright lie – however you choose to describe Mr. William’s error – goes to the heart of trust. This is why he was relieved of his chair.

Trust is essential to so many relationships, including healthcare leadership.

Research is clear – trust is why people work hard, and the lack of trust is why (in many cases and to a large extent) so many workers are disengaged, present yet absent and disaffected.

Leadership is built on vision, visibility and trust. The lesson of Mr. William’s difficulties isn’t about memory – flawed as all of ours are. Rather the lesson is about trust and how precious it is. Trust is extraordinarily difficult to create, and so easily diminished.
